A7. Toronto Tower Renewal Initiative
Eleanor McAteer, Project Director, City of Toronto
There are over 1,000 residential apartment towers found all
across Toronto. Between the 1950s and 1980s, concrete
apartment towers were the most popular building type. Today,
these concrete slab towers are aging and inefficient, while the
open spaces that surround them are underutilized and poorly
maintained. Mayor's Tower Renewal will combine green
technology with neighbourhood revitalization projects to make
stronger, greener communities across the city.
